Did we solve your problem today?

Body Mass Index is a quick screen for whether your weight is in a healthy range for your height. It's a general guide, not a diagnosis.

The math behind it

BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ (height in meters squared).

Ranges: <18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 normal, 25–29.9 overweight, ≥30 obese.

Worked example

70 kg, 175 cm → 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.9 (normal weight).

FAQ

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not always — muscle is dense, so very muscular people can show a high BMI without excess fat.
