The GWAM Calculator uses a simple formula to measure typing speed: GWAM equals keystrokes divided by 5, then divided by minutes. Here's how it works: every letter you type counts as one keystroke, but most words contain about 5 characters on average (including spaces and punctuation). By dividing total keystrokes by 5, we estimate the number of words typed. Dividing this by the total time in minutes gives us Gross Words A Minute - the raw speed before accuracy adjustments.
