This equation first annualizes your monthly usage by multiplying by 12, then applies a location-specific emission factor (measured in kg CO₂ per kWh) to determine your yearly footprint, and finally converts grams to kilograms by dividing by 1000. The emission factor varies based on your region's energy grid mix, accounting for differences between coal-heavy and renewable-heavy electricity sources.
