How the Math Works

Starting from the first visible signs of proestrus (such as swelling vulva or discharge), day 0 marks the beginning. Days 0 through 9 constitute the proestrus phase, days 9 through 18 represent the fertile estrus period, and from day 18 onward, the dog enters diestrus. This linear segmentation allows for precise tracking using basic arithmetic and calendar calculations.

Practical Applications

To use this calculator, record the first day your dog exhibits signs of heat, then count forward day by day. Each day that passes moves your dog through the cycle: day 1 is proestrus, day 10 marks the start of estrus, and day 19 begins diestrus.
